"Polaroid Picture" keeps with Frank's style while having a unique sound, followed by "The Fisher King Blues" which is more reminiscent of tracks like "To Take You Home", much more folky. "Tell Tale Signs" is a brilliant track with some of the most poetic lyrics, and will get you marvelling at Frank's craft again each time you listen. After the upbeat, slightly reflective nature of the first three tracks, as soon as "Plain Sailing Weather" kicks in with all the energy and enthusiasm Frank and the band always put into their music, you know this is going to be a fantastic album. Although Recovery and The Way I Tend to Be are definitely stand-out tracks, the rest of the album by no means pales into insignificance, and I don't agree with those who say these are the best two tracks on the album.

This is a great CD, and is full of all the timeless singalongs and unique anecdotes that you'd expect from Frank. His stand up and fight/face the truth mentality is 'music to my' ears, yet again expressing to the max that music is a place to talk about the things that truly matter, not generic bull. That honesty is what makes his music so relatable and why I love this album as much as I have loved all the others. The best thing about Frank is that his music evolves and matures but, its still raw and honest and stays true to what he set out to make. It's one of the only album's I have ever pre-ordered and I was desperate to hear it. Tape Deck Heart is a stand up anthem of an album! Giving us the punk, passioned songs you sing with all your heart (Recovery, Plain Sailing Weather, Four Simple Words,Time Machine) Just to name a few!Īs well as the honest beauty of (Anymore and The Way I Tend to Be) 'The way I tend to be' I had been listening to on repeat, via you tube for about 2 months before the album dropped. I have seen Frank Turner twice over the last couple of years, and I will 100% be going again this summer if I can get tickets! It has been said this album is introspective. Given the subject matter it still appeals. The album is different and not in the same vein as Frank Turners previous work. And even after after half a dozen listenings I can't say I have a favourite track. I like the album, but I can't listen to the whole thing at a single sitting. Songs about depression, (The album opens with this one!) Frank moves on to give advice on bringing up your kids, and it is a dark parenting advice, and all to save the Fisher King. Songs about losing childhood love and childhood best friends. Love lost through drink, lost through your own actions. Songs about love lost are a recurring theme on the album.

If you must listen, remove all sharp objects from the room and wrap up in the duvet. All good.īut the lyrics! If you feel a little down, stay away. The melodies, the style, the willingness to try new stuff. This album has Frank Turners fingerprints all over it.

The nice surprise in the title was that If you buy this you get the MP3 album free so you can put it on to your i pod or mobile and start listing to it right away if you want to I'd highley recommend this album to anyone who is considering it don't wait just buy it now. I was very pleased that many of the songs I had seen and enjoyed in that field this summer were on the album and had translated so well I have seen a few results on here saying some of Franks other albums are better but as I have no basis for comparison I think it's a really good album which I enjoy listening to as much as I like Opposites by Biffy Clyro(buy that before you read on it's really good I'll wait.got it good I'll now finish the review) there are two standout's on this album for me all the songs are good but recovery and four simple words are my standouts at the moment. The very next day I rushed out and bought this album or rather I went on to amazon and bought it here. I only herd frank turner properly this summer standing in a hot dusty field in reading (yes it was the festival)I had herd a couple of songs at the Olympics I enjoyed them but hadn't really paid much attention so I went to see the set more curious than anything.
